Golfing Holiday in County Mayo

There is a ruggedness about County Mayo that is stirring. It’s one of the least populated counties yet offers breathtaking coastal scenery, bleak moorland and bog, all fringed with imposing mountains. Mayo – which juts proudly into the Atlantic Ocean – has the most wonderful people who proudly want to share their country. There are no easy courses on this page but you will have a wonderful time discovering this for yourself.

Westport woods Hotel, westport, County Mayo.
This popular hotel is conveniently located between the charming town of Westport and the Quay, nestled in mature woodlands with views of Westport Hasouse Lake. It has a delightful Lakeview restaurant, leisure centre, riding centre, newly–opened spa and to complete the picture, the stylish new Bench Cafe Bar with regular nightly entertainment.

The Golf: Belmullet (Carne), Enniscrone and Westport
A journalist in the Irish Times said: “Simply the most stunning discovery I have made in golf” – and he is telling the truth about Belmullet links, known locally as Carne. However good, it is only the equal of Enniscrone, which nestles in the Bartagh
peninsula with breathtaking views and great greens. Westport is a parkland course superbly located alongside the Atlantic overlooking Clew Bay and completes a fabulous quartet.

Downhill House Hotel, Ballina, County Mayo.
Downhill House Hotel is ideally situated just a 15 minute walk from the heart of Ballina with its shops, bars and restaurants. The stylish hotel is set in beautiful tranquil gardens overlooking the River Brosna and close to the River Moy, both renowned for
salmon fishing. The hotel has 6 en suite rooms all with TV and telephone. The leisure club has two swimming pools, steam–room, sauna, jacuzzi and floodlit tennis courts.

Enniscrone is a brilliant links running through the Bartagh peninsula with breathtaking views and great greens and you will have done well to finish anywhere near par! Westport is a rolling championship parkland course set on the shores of Clew
Bay with terrain that is part inland and part seaside and testing at every stage. Strand Hill is a par 69 links with many doglegs that provide inviting shortcuts but the Atlantic wind can play havoc – be warned.
